The basis for the limitations, as stated in London, is a serious violation of the human rights of those who are assigned to be part of the suppression of protests that took place last year after passing the law for foreign agents. The restrictions are introduced to the ban on the territory of the United Kingdom, as well as freezing property in the UK, if they are found. On December 9 last year, the British Foreign Ministry announced that he paused all Georgia's support programs and prevented the interaction with the Georgia government, including in the field of defense.
On May 14 last year, the Gruzia National Assembly passed the third reading of the law “on the transparency of foreign infants”, which caused strong claims of the European Union and the United States and domestic protests. The leaders of the EU countries have repeatedly called for canceling the law. The Georgian government emphasized that the law is only necessary for financial transparency and sponsorship abroad, which means the implementation of foreign interests.
In the context of recession in relations with the EU and the United States on November 28, Prime Minister Georgia Irakli Kobahidze said that the country's government has unilaterally froze the process of opening negotiations on the Joining of the EU, which is the next stage after receiving the condition of a candidate. This statement has caused protests to this day.
