If you've ever seen the pigeons, you probably pay attention to their gait: while walking, they always nod. But what is the meaning from the viewpoint of biology?

Back in 1978, scientists from Canada conducted experiments and found the reason why pigeons nodded again. This action in birds takes place in two stages. First – a shock and moving head forward, then – fixing the head in a position, while its body “catches up”. In fact, this has only one mission – visualize vision.

Because at the time of twitching the pigeon, the head was still motionless, the brain of the bird managed to overcome a clear image. This is extremely important, because pigeons are meat -eating birds. They need to quickly respond to a change situation. In addition, they, unlike one person, cannot focus on some objects during fast movement.
